art 2 final portfolio

Art 2 Final Exam                 Nora Salama

1. which project was your most successful? Describe the theme and or topic and the process you went through to complete the project. were the choices you made regarding material, size, technique, etc. beneficial to enhancing this project. Please Explain.
I believe in my opinion my most successful project would be the Nerds project from the portraits project. the theme of the project was to use a medium that is unusual or something different in that matter as a portrait. the process I went through for this project was very hard but it was worth it, I wanted to show contrast by having a lot of colors and I decided to use nerds since they are very colorful. I was doing this project with a friend so we had both our faces in the portrait, half mine, half hers. We had to buy a lot of Nerds to begin our project, and we started by gluing down every single nerd; which as you can see is a lot. regarding the size, we didn't want to have little amount of nerds on the board so we decided to have a big board to hold many nerds. the material of the candy was very hard to get to stick on the board and it would always fall off the board. I really love how this project turned out though.

2.discuss one project where you felt you overcame the most obstacle. what were those obstacles and how to work through them? Explain how risk taking or challenging yourself made you a better artist.

I Defiantly overcame obstacle in the project or book carving. I was very stressed out about this work piece but now I feel accomplished and proud about this project. I had a lot of issues with carving through paper because it didn't always turn out the way I hoped it would. it was very difficult carving through the paper itself.I would be carving through 40 pages at a time and it would hurt my hand. challenging myself has helped me a lot in taking chance and believing in myself. I defiantly feel more of an artist now after doing projects like these that I would have never done. im glad we take risk taking in this class.

3.look at your body of work over the semester and chose 2 pieces that show your growth as an artist. Discuss each piece and how you grew in the following areas: application of material, technique, and skills, artistic vision, use of the principles and elements, creativity, intuition and subject matter.
if I had seen this photo before I had art 2 I would have never thought I would have drawn something like that. I showed application of material in my orange drawing by showing highlights in my drawing and showing the shades in areas that needed to be shaded. with my ice-cream painting, I showed application by the use different use of color in needed areas. my technique with my orange drawing was that I had to be vary careful with the direction I was drawing in because orange don't have the same direction in it. my technique in the ice-cream drawing was to show texture and shading. I would say skill for both of my drawings would be just using: shading and texture. with creativity, I feel like this art class we are able to express it more using our own minds and that is how we showed creativity.

4. this semester we introduce a new way of teaching and learning. students had choices in subject matter and material. explain your thoughts on how effective this was ( or if it was not) to your learning experience in this course. provide examples through your art projects so we can see evidence of your learning.

I really enjoyed having the choice to use my own creative minds. if it wasn't my choice with what I would draw it would kind of take the meaning of art class. Art is to  is to express your feeling through art not only that, I think there are some personal things or things people enjoy that they would want to draw. if it wasn't for the choice to use my own mind in drawing I wouldn't have been able to draw the pyramids because it is something personal. another example, is that I really like drawing stuff with flowers. if it wasn't for my art choices, I wouldn't be able to draw that work. I really enjoyed choosing my own ideas for the projects. it was sort of tough with the options of art work, because sometimes you have no idea what your thinking of and it just comes it you.
